Edmonton Branch: Tree Planting and Plaque Project
Edmonton Branch Tree Planting Project will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 2 PM. Provincial dignitaries, members of the Edmonton UEL Branch, and quests will gather at the Alberta Legislative Grounds to plant a tree and plaque dedicating the past visit of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II to Alberta in 2005.
The variety of tree selected to be planted is a Bur Oak. These are the green leaves symbolized on the UEL Crest:

The plaque placed in front of the tree will read as follows:
This tree commemorates the visit of
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
in celebration of Alberta’s
Centennial 1905-2005
[UELAC Armorial Bearings]
Planted by descendants of United Empire Loyalists of Canada
who are members of the Edmonton and Calgary Branches.
The roots of this tree symbolize the ancestral roots of
Loyalists who fled the Thirteen American Colonies from
1775 to 1783 and remained faithful to the British Crown.
Just as the branches of this tree grow and spread,
similarly many Albertans are descendants of these
original Loyalists.
